2008 mid-winter update

July 1st, 2008 by doris83

it’s 3-ish new zealand time in the middle of my winter break.. exactly in the middle.. 1.5weeks gone.. another 1.5weeks to go.. i should really be doing my practical report that’s due when school starts and do some practice driving to get my full license.. oh well..

anyway it has been 6months since i last updated.. and i am hoping that there are some friends out there who are actually interested to know my update.. well.. it’s pretty much the same.. this little countryside town i am is too small for anything!!

no doubt i ‘love’ palmy.. well.. i don’t exactly hate but i just can’t wait to leave palmy.. no offense to the townfolks here.. but singapore.. aucky and welly are way more interesting.. there are like no shops and food to eat here.. can you imagine?!

anyway i might as well as enjoy this time to slack.. don’t know when is the next time i will have 3 full weeks to rest and relax again.. nothing better than hibernating in the cozy home during cold winter.. oven replacing fireplace for heat..=P

let me see.. what is interesting to update? had a couple of good dinners with flatties.. hallmates and friends in the past 2weeks.. did and continue doing heaps of laundry.. oh and went to welly on a shopping trip for a day.. and bought my new levis!!

earlier today was playing dressing up with flattie.. coz we got nothing to do.. and dress up as though as i was in singapore (and she in malaysia).. camwhore photos as evidence.. i was procrastinating and she simply had nothing else to do!!

i drove my gf’s audi to and fro welly last wednesday (omg.. a week already!) walked in and out like a million shops in few hours but found nothing much.. spilled petrol on my jeans.. which was a sign for buying new jeans.. heehee~~ my new fave levis!!

gonna miss the kiwi brekkie when i go home.. the only brekkie i remembered eating was dim sum and the wonton noodles at dover market last time.. next time i gonna miss the eggs.. bacons.. mushrooms.. grilled tomatoes.. sausages.. steak and hashbrowns!

i used to be a tomato-hater (still a veggie-hater) but these orange-red friends grew on me.. it gotta b the kiwi brekkie.. grilled tomatoes with salt and pepper.. yummilicious.. tried all varieties of tomatoes!!why didn’t i remember eating this b4??

exams was over only 2weeks ago and it felt like 2months.. haha.. totally ditched supply chains and everything.. my new love for tomatoes gotta be caused by the excessive study of greenhouse tomatoes for my coursework.. omg~~

did a shiseido facial last month.. immediate radiance! can imagine how potent their products are.. rejected all the sales by exchange for 2 free eyelash curlers..=P eyelash curlers are a must!! open up sleepy eyes.. as good as the shu umera 1!!

due to lack of shops in palmy.. bought heaps of stuffs from sasa.com.. my biotherm aquasource moisturizer and cleanser.. and sunplay range of sunblock.. these are seriously good products.. once i used them.. i love them.. not addicted.. just like~~

talking about addiction.. i haven’t touched nutella for almost a month!! limiting to no more than 750g nutella/month.. except for exam months.. and birthday months.. and my big stash of kinder bueno.. ok.. maybe that’s a little addiction..

due to the large amount of junk food i am eating.. and eva et al. been reminding how fat i became.. i decide to try to shed off some flabs.. tried a little of the master cleanse and salt water flush.. i like it..might continue for life..=)

master cleanse is drinking maple syrup lemonade with cayenne pepper.. sounds dodgy but it actually taste quite good.. drink a cup of it every night if i am not too full.. healthy lemonade and all the nutrients for my body to absorb through the night..

although this is supposed to be those detox diet plan.. i modified it to drink it as a night time healthy drink.. lemon is alkaline forming.. cayenne pepper are supposed to be miraculous.. controlled my night time indigestion and acid reflux pretty well..

also doing a slightly modified morning saltwater flush.. if i planned on staying in for the day.. i will do this flush to clean my digestive tract and colon before washing up and brekkie.. i thought this is really good.. may make it a weekly routine for life!!

last easter was another excellent easter i had in new zealand.. 2 of my gfs came to travel with me from singapore!! we had a great time.. drove around in a cute 2003 nissan march.. totally fall in love with her.. but too expensive to own..=$

our itinerary: auckland city -> gulf harbour -> sky tower + orbit restaurant -> hamilton gardens -> rotorua -> luging + gondola + hilltop restaurant -> taupo -> palmy for me and wellington for them -> waitomo caves -> auckland + brekkie at rebo

the watermelons in singapore taste way better than those in new zealand.. think it’s the time it takes to send it here.. it just isn’t the same.. but the ice cream here taste nicer than those at home.. on par with ben & jerry’s and hagen daz..

been trying to finish the harry potter fanfic i started 5years ago when ngee ann was closed coz of sars.. no inspiration for the ending still.. nothing very inspiration about palmy perhaps.. wanted to write that instead of the blog.. but oh well..

watch heaps of movies online recently.. sex in the city gotta be the best 1.. strong female bonding.. my fave.. love watching shows portraying excellent female characters.. like carrie perhaps.. and her gorgeous walk-in wardrobe.. my dream closet!!

re-read an article about the importance of girlfriends today.. the first time i read it was before i was 20.. i still find it true.. girlfriends are one of the most important part of my life.. life just isn’t the same without these babes.. you know who you are!!

there are just so much things to do.. and so little time.. i can think of probably 101things that i should be doing instead of updating my life here.. but their priority isn’t of great importance.. for example.. sleeping? time now is 5.10am.. morning!!

finished my lemonade.. prepared my salt water for later.. heck the beauty regime.. gonna wash up and get into bed before the sun rise.. set my alarm clock to be up and about by 12noon hopefully.. what better way to spend winter than this?

life update.. (after my *ahem* 20th birthday)..

January 11th, 2008 by doris83

well.. firstly thanks for reading my blog update.. for someone who is willing to spend some time of their life to read about me.. gotta be someone who cares.. and i truly appreciate that.. or perhaps you just have nothing to do and stumble across this.. oh well.. thanks anyway~~

just turned a quarter of a century old a couple of days ago.. feel a little old now.. hitting the mid-twenties.. instead of my supposedly late teens.. some of my dreams and goals.. should be nearer.. but they still feel pretty far away at this point of time..

now i am more of a facebook fan than friendster fan.. but i will continue to manage my accounts in both of this site and bebo as well.. since my new zealand friends are mostly beboers.. but if i know you in real life.. you know i wanna be keeping in touch with you..

1 of my goals is to be financially free aka retiring at age 35.. that’s just 10 years away.. omg!! i can’t believe i am that near to the BIGGER 3!! working is awesome.. but depending my living on a paycheck is a big NO NO!! so yes.. that’s my long term plan and i am still working towards that goal~~

not interested in climbing the corporate ladder.. just wanna be my happy employee and learn heaps of things in life through working.. right now i am working in a golf course and ducking golf balls for 8hours a day 5days a week.. and it’s exciting!!

love working at the golf course and the people from all over the world.. there’s more to job in golf course than picking golf balls and mowing lawns.. it’s truly an eye opener!! and not to mention my awesome colleagues!! they are such a fantastic bunch of multi-nationality people!!

well.. i am indulging myself in the shopping places in auckland coz there’s no shops in palmy!! ok.. not literally.. but you know.. lack of variety etc.. with so many clothes from my fave brands rip curl and roxy.. all my money is flying into my new clothes!! heehee..

borrowed my friend’s car for summer.. 1995 toyota trueno.. supposed to be a cool-as car.. but well.. i am an amateur driver.. got a teeny restricted license in nz.. licence-less in sg.. got into countless little accidents.. spent heaps of money at the mechanic until he recognise me and THE car.. *oops*

missing my wonderful girlfriends in singapore.. totally.. and obviously those at other parts of the world.. u know who u r if u r reading this.. coz there’s too many to name and i dun wanna miss any1 out.. i miss our good old days together.. shopping.. coffee-ing.. movie-ing.. chatting.. aaahhhh!!

big plan for dieting this year.. need to lose some flabs especially since i am almost 60 horrendous kilograms.. metabolism is slower.. not intending to get rid of chocolates and nutella.. how am i supposed to live without chocolates in my life?? yes.. a goal this year is to lose.. say 10kg?

life in nz is truly awesome.. it’s almost like home now.. not very kiwinized but more or less affected by the culture here.. and i have learnt to see singapore culture from an outsider’s point of view.. it’s truly amazing meeting people from all over the world here.. experience of a lifetime!!

an important thing i wanna do when i come home is to do more traveling!! will spend the next few years going to all the asian countries.. including india!! never planned to initially but now that i met some awesome people from india in nz.. and of coz china.. japan.. korea.. malaysia.. taiwan.. etc..

and when i truly retired aka don’t depend on employer’s paycheck.. i definitely visit america.. canada.. europe.. africa and middle east.. the people i met in nz from all parts of the world makes me want to go and visit their home country at least once in my lifetime..

big dreams.. big goals.. big plans.. all need money somehow.. and hence the financial freedom plan!! gotta brush up my investment and business skills.. totally miss playing cashflow game with the knowledgeable group whom i learnt so much from for so many years!! if u read this.. u know who u r..=)

in case you may think i have matured.. unfortunately no~~ i am still extremely hyper and optimistic.. occasionally insane and dreamy.. sometimes bouncy and stony (’stoning’ in sg term).. rarely rational and brainy.. and once in a blue moon.. i am actually normal and average.. u know me..=)

as with all new year and birthday.. time to reflect on my past.. and plan for the future.. meanwhile enjoying the present since my life has always been great!! really excited on what’s in 2008 and beyond for me.. oh.. i have actually typed some updates right..

well.. guess i will update again when the mood comes.. and if you ARE retiring young and retiring rich.. with a proper plan and action steps.. do drop me a message so i know there’s someone out there who have the same frequency as me.. then again.. i am weird.. so.. you know..

i believe i am turning 19 years old today..;P

January 7th, 2007 by doris83

it has been ages since i last add a blog entry.. it’s about time to add something inside.. especially since i am like turning 2.4 decades old.. omg omg.. this is like the 2nd pig year i remember in my life.. it’s like not too long ago we were 12 years old~!

right now i am staying in this small countryside town call cambridge in middle of new zealand north island.. nice and quiet and everything.. but no internet and lack of technology.. for a city bumpkin like me.. i still prefer a slightly more exciting city life.. lol~~

working in a nursery over summer.. totally laborious.. don’t think i will ever work in a nursery again.. body aching almost everyday after work.. haha.. very physically intensive.. and brain-less job.. not necessary to use much brain power daily.. getting rusty already..

it is summer over here.. day time can get quite hot sometimes.. the sun is the super scorching kind.. can feel the uv rays burning.. even with sunblock.. and then at night can get quite chilly.. sg temperature the best.. coz we got shelter and air-con everywhere.. unlike here..

put on freaking 10kg since i came here.. totally fat and obese now.. extremely overweight~! over here only eat and sleep.. not much things to do.. and high carbo diet.. all undergo fat synthesis.. plus the weather is cold.. so eat even more.. argh!!

can’t wait to go back to palmy again.. 1 more month to go.. at least there is daily internet access.. haha.. and lessons.. this year got the residential adviser job.. can’t wait for that.. and no need to cook my own food~! that’s the best.. cooking ain’t fun if it is a must-do..

on jan 1 at 12midnight.. i saw a shooting star!! the 1st time i ever saw 1.. in auckland.. it was so fast that i took awhile to register that it was indeed a shooting star.. hopefully my wish will come true.. but it wasn’t a very clear wish.. jeez..

in nz many places close for days from the christmas to new year.. so it’s like 12 days of all eat and sleep and no work!! so exciting.. haha.. other companies got like 15 days off work.. something sg company probably never will have.. other than sdc last last year.. that’s 2years ago!!

since over here is nice and boring.. thought of those old memories.. it’s like so much have happened and makes me feel so old just thinking about it.. almost a quarter of my life has passed.. so scary!! the mid-twenties crisis that every1 is talking about~~

not too long ago there was a sec 4 gathering in sg.. but too bad i can’t go.. and 16years old seems eons ago!! it was like 8 years ago when i last wore school uniform.. the thought that i can’t fit into my uniform again is horrible!! aaahhh..=O

been watching heaps of dramas lately.. china’s wu3 xia2 series.. korean and taiwanese and japanese dramas.. there are that much free time that i even watch the shows multiple times.. haha.. most importantly.. the shows must have happy endings~~ gotta love ‘em~!

people here don’t get birthday off work.. instead gotta bring food (and beers most of the time) for colleagues for morning tea.. their break here is known as "smoko" in the "smoko" room (we call pantry in sg) in which you can’t smoke during the break or in the room.. weird right?

had a work-do (aka work-party) for christmas in early dec.. the culture here is quite different.. but apparently the guys flock around the bbq pit.. apparently that’s the same everywhere.. lol!! while girls just sit around and talk outdoors in the cold.. brrr~

totally missing the normal sg life i am so used to.. the gatherings.. the late nights.. the coffee chats.. the movies.. the pool games.. the karaoke sessions.. etc.. life is definitely more fun in sg.. but i have survived without the city life for almost 1 year.. that’s quite some time..

it’s scary leaving the ‘early twenties’ group and joining the ‘mid-twenties’ group.. how interesting.. i am spending my entire mid-twenties in nz.. gotta enjoy heaps before going back to the wonderfully brilliant sg and enjoy even more for my late twenties.. the BIG 3 seems so near..

it took forever to go from 10years old to 20years old.. but it is like so fast to go from 20 to 24.. jeez.. i don’t even wanna think about turning 30.. after the way i heard my ex-colleagues talking about that.. it’s just terribly horrible!!

the last 1 year in nz had been simple.. life hasn’t been more relax than here for years.. everything is so slow!! almost going crazy about how slow the things are here.. went for a 2d1n camp.. only 3 major programs!! compared to sg jam packed schedule.. sg style better..

nz is not bad.. but i don’t think i can survive here for my whole life.. it’s simply too boring and slow.. and the distance between places are super far.. the nearest city from palmy is 2 hours away!! compared to orchard road from choa chu kang.. oh.. transport is quite sucky here too!!

sg is a zillion times better than nz.. that’s for sure.. i will not visit nz after i leave here next time.. coz there won’t be much changes even after 50years.. judging from the years they take to do up a place.. the change can be seen only after centuries probably..

but it’s a good place for a holiday.. 3-month holidays in nz is a great experience.. strongly recommend.. coz you will spend at least 50% of the time traveling on the roads.. seeing sheeps and cows.. the landscape is nice.. can see heaps of stars at night.. real pretty!!

it’s good to stay alone.. independent living.. no 1 to report to.. heaps of peace or solitary.. this is the best part about it.. and can go out late or traveling as and when i want.. totally awesome.. need to return back to stay with my parents when i go home.. hmm..

whenever i go auckland.. i always thought of home.. the variety of food.. the highways.. the street lamps.. the buildings.. city always feel so homey.. and heaps of places to shop and things to do.. unlike a quiet little countryside.. 2 more years to go.. aahhh.. getting even older..

it’s a lengthy blog entry.. finished on january 8 2007 12.45am.. meanwhile i gonna feel like i just turned 19.. so yay~~ gonna enjoy cambridge for a couple more weeks before going back to dear ol’ palmy to enjoy the wonderful year ahead..

adding onto the blog since last night.. i feel so loved today by those who remembered my birthday.. *muackz* lots of love and hugs and nutella..;) the 1st birthday away from sg but the countless simple birthday celebrations.. bought doughnuts for my colleagues (it is the culture here to buy food and/or beers to work on their birthday as celebration).. i love the doughnuts here.. get me sugar high~ not as exciting as nutella but still.. anyway we had doughnuts for morning and afternoon tea.. the usual work doing potting and such.. hit minimum target today *phew* .. after work first thing went to countdown (sg idea of cold storage..) to buy a big bottle of nutella and chocolate milk for dinner.. this is so heavenly.. gonna feast on my nutella.. obviously i am not finishing all today.. hope to last for 1 month.. although the last bottle accidentally lasted for only 3 days.. sheesh.. this could be the reason for me getting so fat!! plus over here people eat and sleep and work.. thankfully the work is so labour intensive.. after this internet session.. going back to eat dinner and re-watch my dramas in my cosy bedroom.. nice and simple.. cheers~

great memories of easter break trip to new zealand south island..

April 29th, 2006 by doris83

kia ora!! just came back from the easter trip to south island.. it’s awesome and can’t wait to tell you about it.. (if you wanna continue reading that is..=D) this trip wouldn’t be possible without the fanta-bulous flatmates annie and michelle!! and then the other wonderful people who housed our belongings (haala our beloved flatmate!! nadiah!! yusma!! hani!! nabil!! and mah-tee our dearest neighbours!!).. many thanks and greatly appreciated!!

starting from 14 april aka good friday.. we left palmy to wellington by intercity bus.. and over there we stayed with michelle’s friend bex whose house in on a hilltop!! the view from the living room is the city of wellington.. it’s soo cool!! then we walk around the city.. met annie’s friend emily and we ate dinner together in a little noodle restaurant near the foodcourt.. their ‘chicken rice’ mildly resembled the hainanese chicken rice.. but taste far from it.. and of course their famous bubble tea there too.. it taste soo much like home but cost abt 5bucks here.. awww.. honey green tea.. yummy!! (btw they don’t sell heaven and earth green tea in new zealand!! can you believe that?!)

the next day we went to te papa museum.. and i went for the lord of the rings exhibition once more.. already seen it in singapore though.. but well.. it’s just soo good.. arwen’s dress and evenstar and sword are still as droolable as ever.. but of course it’s like ten times more spacious here.. took heaps of free postcards here even bought ian brodie’s lotr location guide book.. haha.. after spending a couple of hours in the exhibition.. we walked along taranaki street wharf.. some place that have some nice scenic view.. waiting for time to pass since our flight to christchurch is at 5++pm..

guess what we saw at the waiting area in the airport?? we saw our backpacks being loaded onto the plane!! it’s just so unbelievable!! haha.. the flight was like only 30 - 40mins.. before we even settle down.. it’s time to get off.. jeez.. 115 bucks for this ticket..

when we arrived at christchurch.. patricia picked us up from the airport to her house.. michelle found her in helpexchange.net (it’s a pretty good site really).. her house is soo pretty and cosy with a nice garden too!! it’s along the line of bukit timah bungalows.. really awesome.. in exchange for meals and accomodation.. we helped her with fence painting.. vacuuming.. laundry.. house keeping.. dish-washing.. and gardening of course!! for about 4hours everyday.. and we spent the longest time in christchurch coz patricia and david’s house was just so comfortable.. and she got this awesome gadget called electric blanket too!! it keeps the bed nice and warm!! oh my gosh!!

on easter sunday afternoon after some massive morning gardening.. david was so kind to drive us to the sumner beach.. took heaps of scenic photos there coz it’s just soo pretty and then we decided to walk to their house.. coz it’s along the bay and the view is really great.. but ofcoz this little walk took us 1+ hour!! we took forever to reach home and by then we were ravenous!! patricia prepared this awesome baked fish that tasted so yummy-licious.. totally loved it.. *droolz at the thought*

patricia and david gave us heaps of recommendations on what to do around christchurch and mount cook and queenstown and henceforth we got our awesome itinerary planned at the christchurch i-site.. abit like singapore visitor centre at orchard road i think.. honestly we only planned till the part where we end up at their house.. haha..

so on easter monday (yes easter monday!! public holiday!!).. after doing some massive fence painting.. we went to town again.. we covered the art museum.. prettier than singapore’s museums and less eerie.. then we went for punting at the avon.. the view is soo scenic.. think of the pretty river scene in the movie the notebook.. it’s nicely autumn and like soo romantic.. once again we took heaps of pictures and enjoyed the 20-minute ride at avon river for 12 bucks.. at 5pm we traveled to the gondola place (aka cable car but going up and down and not vertical like singapore).. took bus 28 costing 2.50 bucks but still alighted at the wrong stop and had to walked for 30 minutes before reaching.. haha.. it’s most advisable to take gondola at late afternoon so you get to see the day view.. the sunset view.. and the night view all within 2+ hours.. isn’t that smart??

tuesday was rather plain.. after some massive gardening work.. we went for souvenir shopping.. annie n michelle bought heaps of stuffs while i was browsing away rather aimlessly.. actually i don’t even remember what we did that day anymore.. haha!!

then on wednesday after some simple housework.. we went to town again.. haha.. for our tram ride.. took around town and went to some more museums.. the cantebury 1 and even visited their botanic gardens.. not too spectacular i would say.. but we went to the art centre and it’s soo hogwarts-looking!! the brick walls with the squarish stairwells.. think hogwarts castle but only about 5storey high.. so many rooms and places and big.. and there is this little fudge cottage which i totally had to try their chocolates.. there is some guided tour that teach you how to make fudge or something but we missed the timing.. basically the art centre is cool!! well.. christchurch is famous for their churches anyway.. so yeah.. they have nice little brick buildings everywhere..

we woke up really early and took atomic shuttle bus to mount cook.. bus depart at 7am!! (zzz-time) along the way we bypass the famous lake tekapo.. the lake is turquoise in color!! really pretty!! it’s a pity we didn’t make a stop there though.. then we continued and reach little twizel town at 12+.. strolled around abit and got all tourisy with photography before continuing on cooks’ connection to mount cook youth hostel..

the view along the way to mount cook was really breathtaking.. surrounded by heaps of mountains.. and greens.. soo pretty.. but then when you see long enough all the mountains look the same.. the mount cook youth hostel is probably the cheapest place around.. coz the rest of the place look really posh!! we reached mount cook at 1+.. settled down in the 8-bed dorm before heading out for our first tramping trip of the day.. after trial and error with bush walk and such.. we took the kea point walk coz it’s nice and short.. aka less than 2hours.. there are no street lamps there lor.. so we wanna be back before sunset.. the weather was pretty scorching and hot.. and it’s a great day for walks.. after 1 hour we reached the famous kea point without seeing any kea (i think it’s a kind of bird) along the way.. took some pictures with mount cook.. sat there and stone for about 10minutes.. before walking all the way back again.. henceforth.. we conquered 1 of the mount cook walk.. 16 trekking tracks more to go!! hahaha~

we are not that fantastic lah.. so the next day we went for the famous hooker valley walk.. the walk that everyone went for.. get to see heaps of things along the way.. *duh* it’s 4+hours to and fro.. not to mention 30minutes to walk to the starting point of hooker valley!! it was raining for the whole day but that did not stop us from going for the great walk.. i wore the fairfield millenium windbreaker cum raincoat and i must say that it’s really effective!! anywayz back to the tramping.. we nearly gave up along the way coz the track was pretty challenging plus the rain and everything.. finally after walking up and down don’t know how many hills.. crossed don’t know how many bridges.. bypass don’t know how many avalanche warning signs.. and walked at super scary high ground by mountain side.. we reached the end point.. and saw the pretty glaciers!! it’s sooo nice.. but the wind was kinda ghastly.. and it’s really cold!! we hid behind a big stone and sat there for our 1st break of this walk.. die die must sit there for 10minutes coz we walk so long!! stacked up 3 little stones and took a picture with it along the glaciers before turning back.. the route back is always so much easier than the way there.. it was such a challenging and satisfying walk~ btw there’s no supermarkets at mount cook area.. so need to stock up supplies at christchurch pak ‘n’ save.. (pak ‘n’ save in new zealand is like ntuc in singapore.. cheap and good..)

saturday was kinda a resting day for us coz we need to check out our room at 10am but our bus to queenstown wasn’t till 2.40pm.. watched heaps of movie tapes in the lounge area and just stone there to wait for bus.. obviously it’s another long 4 hour ride to queenstown.. stopping at this pretty little place with nice autumn color.. i think we stopped at geraldine and cromwell.. but i don’t quite remember them anymore.. we reached queenstown at dinner time and went to this chinese restaurant.. queenstown is all tourisy stuffs.. real estate is expensive which equates to expensive things too!! ate a delicious chinese yangzhou fried rice.. yummy!! (you can’t get that in palmy!!) and then went back to our little room in southern laughter backpackers to sleep!!

due to a little screw-up with annie’s alarm clock.. we were 2hours backward in time.. by the time we finished breakfast it was 12.30pm.. haha.. that’s when we realized it was soo late!! so we just walked around queenstown city area.. bought our tix for the lord of the rings tour the next day.. then continue walking around queenstown bay.. bought this awesome patagonia chocolate ice cream.. and continue walking for awhile.. waiting for 5pm before going for gondola.. anywayz we went up to the gondola abit earlier this time at 4+.. i played the luge.. 5times!! haha.. got scenic and thrill ride.. i am kinda chicken so took 3 scenic routes and 2 adventurous routes.. screamed both times when i go down the ultra scary steep slope.. night view of queenstown isn’t as pretty as christchurch.. day view is better for queenstown and night view is better for christchurch.. the luge is awesome.. more fun than sentosa luge.. (obviously) it’s 36bucks for the combo price of gondola and 5luge rides so it’s pretty worthwhile.. then took heaps of photos before going down at 7pm..

monday was my favourite day for the whole trip.. we went for this award winning LORD OF THE RINGS tour!! it’s totally awesome except that it’s abit pricey for 130bucks.. anywayz.. we covered heaps of places.. saw the remarkables mountain range which was in many scenes for all 3 movies.. saw deer park heights from afar.. according to ian brodie’s book.. it’s supposed to be river anduin flowing to pillars of the kings.. the route with gandalf riding to minas tirith on west road to gondor.. and the paths of the dead.. several scenes where the two towers was filmed.. blah blah blah.. but then we are looking at it from the other side of the lake.. it would be awesome if we could go to the remarkables but then heard that it’s pretty challenging without the plane ride.. so well.. no budget for plane ride.. land rover was good to go.. we went along lake wakatipu to glenorchy where we saw even more stuffs.. then we went to amon hen area although i don’t remember where amon hen was supposed to be in the movies.. and then saw part of ithilien along the way.. after that we went to twelve mile delta (we didn’t walk twelve mile obviously..) to see ithilien.. we saw the area where sam saw the oliphants.. i was so tempted to lie at the same place where frodo.. sam and smeagol laid but then no chance of doing that.. saw the location where the battle of harad and rangers of gondor.. the top of the cliff.. it’s pretty cool place to see.. but if got more time can walk in somemore.. there is a little stream inside which was erased away by computer.. and more trees sprouted out here and there.. the people and oliphants were placed in digitally.. of coz.. the top part where we stand was ithilien.. (smeagol catching his food.. eh..) ground was kind dried up so it look like ithilien decaying under influence of sauron.. but ofcoz now have autumn colors.. we continued our way to glenorchy.. saw the snow-clad mount earnslaw.. from far of course.. heaps of snow capped mountains add as misty mountains in the movies.. people and horses in glenorchy were all part of the lord of the rings cast coz town is small but many scenes were filmed there.. then we continued the way to isengard.. amon hen and lothlorien.. these 3 places were filmed everywhere along the way.. we went to the old forest or mirkwood the great.. the foresty scenes from the movies.. and stopped there for refreshments.. it’s soo cool!! i think the name of the place is called dart stables.. the scene where the fellowship met with haldir and taken to galadriel was filmed there.. it’s a really pretty place!! and we saw the place where boromir was killed too.. it was kinda near the main road actually.. everything was filmed near the actual cemented road and not deep into the forest.. the colors were brightened in the movies to make it look more magical but it’s quite nice the natural state already.. then we took the route famously known as ‘road to paradise’.. well.. i don’t know why they call it paradise coz the ‘paradise’ smelled like sheep poops.. anyway we reached the isengard area.. the misty mountains was the backdrop.. i think it’s the remarkables mountain range behind.. some peaks were deleted and edited.. streams was widened digitally.. terrain there is pretty bumpy throughout.. i still don’t remember why it was named paradise.. sheep poop + bumpy road =/= paradise.. we saw the area where the tower of orthanc nestled in nan curunir.. there were those braids rivers where merry and pippin were captured by orcs was filmed.. but we didn’t get that close to the actual area.. looking at it from some distant.. we spent quite a while smelling sheep poop and looked around isengard.. the dart river there wa removed digitally and placed with the isengard tower and stuffs like that.. but the actual site is pretty to see and not nice to smell.. not forgetting you will be stepping on sheep poop every few steps you take.. ah.. there is this part where we never get to do it.. the most famous walk in new zealand.. the routeburn track.. only read on magazines and stuffs.. no chance of doing it.. that’s a walk where you get to experience the middle earth.. recommended by ian brodie anywayz.. and yeah.. that’s about the summary of the tour i took.. if you want to see some photos and video clips.. do drop me an email..=)

so on tuesday.. we took this ultra long intercity bus from queenstown back to christchurch.. bypass the usual towns of cromwell.. geraldine.. twizel and lake tekapo again.. it was raining quite badly at lake tekapo and the lake did not look as pretty as we bypass it on the first day.. the ride was nothing eventful anyway coz we spend most of the time sleeping!! haha~ reached christchurch again in the afternoon.. since it was anzac day (some australia and new zealand war memorial day).. most of the places were closed.. ate a ’soy sauce’ chicken rice that taste like duck rice gravy.. then went back to patricia and david’s house.. they were so nice to put us up for another night.. and of course we had karaoke and music session.. david insisted the the 7 of us gotta ‘party’.. it was pretty fun and memorable..

finally on the last day.. we left at 6am in the morning.. left a little photo and coaster set from queenstown for david and patricia.. took this shuttle (van-like taxi) to the railway station for our 5hours transcoastal ride.. never really take train before other than mrt.. then again.. it feels like an mrt but has toilets and viewing cabin etc.. nothing spectacular.. didn’t get to see whales or dolphins throughout.. anywayz train was kinda delayed still to don’t know what reasons.. we missed the 1.15pm interislander ferry.. then didn’t get much time to look around picton either.. ate something and loither at the waiting area before boarding the ferry at 2.35pm.. we stood at the top viewing deck for nearly 3 hours.. at the end of it.. michelle commented we smelt of salt and exhaust fumes.. in short.. we stinks!! she was having a cosy and comfortable time watching tv in queen charlotte lounge coz she sat the interislander before.. only annie and me are suaku to cook straits.. then again.. i didn’t even see the straits of malacca before.. reached wellington at 5+.. found this cosy singaporean-opened eating place and had dinner.. another fake hokkien mee that taste nothing like it.. i miss hawker centre food!! like decent hainanese chicken rice.. fried hokkien mee.. especially my heaven and earth green tea!! aah~ anywayz the simple dinner we took the intercity bus back to palmy.. at 10pm.. we are in palmy.. can’t imagine how happy we are to see home!! our dearest haala came to pick us up at the bus station.. sooo sweet of her!!

within minutes we are back home.. well.. michelle and i didn’t lock our room doors before returning the keys.. so we managed to stay in our room ‘for free’ from wednesday night till sunday.. while poor annie is locked out and had to sleep on our couch for several nights.. we had such a great time taking turns to stay in and open the door for one another.. haha.. great memories with my flatmates once again..=)

been traveling around..=)

many thanks to peiyun.. darryl.. wenwei n clayton for dropping me comments on my blog.. it’s so sweet of you.. really appreciate them..=)

anywayz there isn’t much to update since the last time.. everything is more or less the same throughout.. sch is az ‘exciting’ az ever.. people r still az nice.. generally yeah..  nothing much..

the only more fun stuffs i have been doing are weekends travelling!! that’s totally awesome!! so glad to have flatmates who love to travel!! budget traveling too!!

annie and i went to himatangi beach on 19mar.. since we can get a free ride down.. why not? and have an enjoyable 2hours there.. forget the beaches in nz.. nothing beats the artifically fake sentosa beaches.. or maldives and mauritius.. haha.. nz beaches are so ubin beaches like.. nothing impressive.. you can tell by the pixs..

we are going to tour the south island on our easter (study) break.. intending to leave palmy on 14apr (good friday).. to wellington and spend a day there before flying down to christchuch on 15apr evening.. we will spend about 5days exploring the famously beautiful christchurch before heading down to queenstown.. hopefully we get to bypass mount cook along the way so can snap some awesome pixs of the highest mountain in new zealand.. then we will be coming back on 26apr and rush our assignments and projects and tests for the next 5daes.. and ya.. study too!! haha~~

then we are planning to backpack to australia in my 3-week break in june.. intending to leave palmy to auckland on 24 or 25jun.. flying to sydney on 26jun.. and travel along the lower east coast of australia for about 2 1/2weeks until 12jul.. no choice but gotta come back coz my 2nd sem starting on 17jul.. need to settle my papers and things lidat.. unless i can get it done earlier.. then can stay 2extra days to tour auckland with my flatmates.. coz they are going home to new york and canada.. probably never meeting again in the rest of our lives.. aawww..

just spent the last 2 weekends traveling around some major places in northland.. went to new plymouth (pronouce as pleemyth) last weekend.. had an awesome time there.. doing all tourisy things like visit parks n zoos n museums.. eat gd food n stuffs lidat.. then the week b4 went napier.. oso do the tourisy stuffs.. since we go on such budget tours.. the total expenses is abt 200+bucks per trip.. so it’s not too bad after all..

do inform mi if u r coming by to new zealand.. i m staying in student city palmerston north.. or more fondly known as palmy.. haha.. life is simple here.. very town-like.. slow pace.. u get the point..

well.. feel free to drop mi any email az n when n i will reply as soon as possible!! love to keep in touch wif friends frm home.. have every intention to stay in touch with you all coz every1 of you that i know had a significant impact in my life.. no matter how little i know you.. but becoz our paths had crossed once upon a time.. you gave me an impression + a memory of you more than you know.. so do send heaps (kiwis love to use the word heaps.. it’s pretty cool ay? haha!!) of emails.. forwards r welcome.. coz gmail is awesomely big.. n growing by the dae..

meanwhile have a great time!! enjoy and stay in touch!!

i love palmy!!

*blink* i am here in new zealand for like 22days!! and it felt like 2years!! coz life here is so awesome!! totally love palmerston north!! you have to come here and feel it yourself!!

i don’t supposed anyone is so free to read my blog.. but just in case if you are my friend and reading this for my updates.. all i can say is that i am doing fine here!! sweet!! (= singapore ok lah!!)

been here for such a short time.. get to experience the awesome peaceful and simple town life.. palmy is like 1/4 size of singapore.. but have only 70000people.. it’s so nice not see an overcrowded town sometimes..

the wind here is blastingly ghastly.. i can be blown away literally!! coz it’ just sooo strong!! palmy is bad.. wellington is worse!! i am wearing my massey sweatshirt like 7days a week.. under the bright scorching sun!! coz the wind is sooo cooold!! sweatshirt is like everywhere.. and so comfy to wear.. no 1 in singapore wears it anyway!!

skipped a lecture last friday on maths to go wellington with my flatmates.. it’s awesome!! visited the world famous te papa museum!! it’s gorgeous!! all the singapore museums can’t beat just one of that!! it’s really nice and so much hands-on stuffs.. singapore discovery centre must buck up manz!! haha!!

went to 1 of the windfarms 2 saturdays ago.. the wind there is really strong!! *duh* the view is fanta-bulous!! but the ride up and down is pretty nauseating though.. it was worth it nevertheless.. reminded me of that hongkong drama show ‘windy valley in los angeles’.. romantic sia!! but i went with my flatmates too.. so yeah.. it was cool~

the school kinda reminded me of hogwarts.. (i know i live in fantasy land.. yeah!) it’s so ulu and up in the mountains.. there are more trees than buildings.. coz these trees are blocking all the buildings and signboards and whatever remotely looking little pathways!! it’s just sooo green!! my room overlook some valley or something.. yet to explore though.. great green view..

buses here are free for all massey students!! it’s brilliant!! can go town without paying a single cent.. but the buses here are so un-frequent.. there’s only 1bus to town every hour on weekends.. that’s terrible.. and the bus stops are kilometres away!! 3blocks away = singapore 3streets away.. it’s that far!!

food here are awesome!! so terrifically meaty!! there’s meat meat and more meat!! the broccoli here are big and fresh and pretty too costing a dollar or so!! been keeping at least a stalk of broccoli in fridge at all times.. but most importantly.. there is the humongous nutella here!! it tastes exactly the same with singapore’s nutella!! it looks the same too!! it last for about 1+week only.. cost only 6.99nzd.. same price too!! oooh nutellaaa~~

my fave surf brands like roxy and ripcurl are here too!! won’t be deprived of them at least!! but billabong seems to rule here!! and they got a great variety of billabong stuffs here.. and they are pretty nice too!! most of the surf brands here look great and about the same price with singapore too..

it’s autumn now and i am feeling so cold.. temp was 13degrees or something last heard a few days ago on radio in the day time.. probably it gonna snow this year.. coz it’s the coldest autumn ever!! need to buy a portable heater in my room soon.. the layers of singapore clothes aren’t keeping me warm enough!! haha!!

last but not least i wanna talk about the 3most wonderful flatmate i have!! you can see them from some of our travelling pictures.. there’s michelle wong mulan (yes.. her chinese name is really mulan!!).. she’s a canadian chinese.. an awesome backpacker.. learning loads from her.. she’s so fun and spontaneous and crazy.. then there’s annie chih.. she’s an american born taiwanese.. love her cute teeth.. she’s loud and mad and funky too!! then there’s haala.. she’s from dubai who migrated to nz 2years ago.. slightly more shy and reserved but really nice.. but she don’t really like chocolate except nutella!! yes!! each of us own 1bottle of the humongous nutella!! yay manz!! we are growing fat together!! and we all sign up with the gym too!! aawww.. there’s so much to talk about my 3awesome flatmates and all the funny things that happen in the last 22days.. but i don’t wanna bore you with it.. so yeah.. they are great..

kairanga court is quite awesome too.. lots of international students here.. great culture mix.. interesting people with interesting accent whom i have interesting conversation with.. well.. the courts are made of brick walls with metal gate.. feel abit like prison.. but our flat is so cozy that we don’t really mind!! the great flatmates made up for it!!

alright.. it’s nearly 12midnight and i really must attempt to study!! update again soon!! keep in touch and drop me some comments!! thanks and cheers!!

suaku to blogging!!

January 9th, 2006 by doris83

totally new to blogging.. attempted once at blogspot.com or something but not sure what happened to it either.. anyway i don’t think anyone will read my blog.. coz i barely read anyone’s else..=P

i supposed the whole world probably can read this?? lazy to check out the blogger’s help desk.. if there’s any in the first place.. and is friendster gonna send out to inform my friends about my posts??

it’s 2.30am now.. on 10jan.. now officially 23years and 2days old.. how assuring!! 2.3decades old is not something to boost about.. humor me by believing i am 18years and 2days old alrighty?? haha!!

this site looks relatively idiot-proof for a newbie blogger like me who tends to log onto friendster at wee hours in the morning.. then again.. i always say "the night is still young!!" do ya agree??

i think i probably gonna rattle on and on since i just feel like talking but too bloated from dinner to sleep.. ate at terra in bugis junction just now.. met up with my cool friends from newater team!!

there’s janet toh (check out her friendster profile).. elaine poon.. toh leemay.. and eric.. wonderful people i know from discovery centre where i used to work!!

now enjoying my holidayz like no tomorrow.. knowing that i am not going to work for another month or so!! haha.. jobless? nah.. holidaying is the word for that manz.. it’s fun fun and more fun!!

going to new zealand to study in february.. not going to be back until probably around 2010.. totally gonna miss you people here!! if you know me and reading this.. yes.. i will miss you too!!

if you happen to read this.. do leave a comment.. million thanks for the kind gesture.. i hope i will update this site as much as my online story at fanfiction.net.. enjoy reading the stories there too!!

meanwhile i gonna enjoy my freedom!! and going to sleep now probably.. spent 10minutes typing this but 1hour exploring the blogging part.. thanks for reading this post anywayz..=)
